Cinco De Mayo Dancing

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday, which is celebrated with parades, with food and drink, colorful traditional Mexican decorations, music and of course, dancing. Dancing is part of any successful party or celebration and Cinco de Mayo is definitely no exception to this rule. There are some particular dances, which are commonly performed on this holiday - if you have wanted to learn more about Cinco de Mayo dancing, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will cover some of the dances, which are associated with this incredibly popular holiday.

Mexican folk dancing is usually the style you will see performed at events and performances which commemorate this day; which makes perfect sense, since this is, as you surely know, a holiday, which originated in Mexico. You almost would not know it, given how much more widely and enthusiastically celebrated this day is in the United States than in Mexico, but of course, it is a day on which Americans celebrate Mexico and Mexican-American culture.

Salsa Dancing

One of the types of dancing which you may see is zapateado, a style of Mexican tap dancing which is commonly performed at holiday events and cultural performances on this holiday. The dancers will wear special boots with hard soles, much like the tap shoes that you may be familiar with. This is a lively dance which while it might be a little too tricky for beginners to pull off successfully, is always a lot of fun to watch.

Another dance, which you're almost certain to see performed (or perhaps take part in yourself), is the Jarabe Tapatio, perhaps better known to Americans as the Mexican Hat Dance. This is kind of Cinco de Mayo dancing, which is popular with adults and children alike and makes a great activity for any Cinco de Mayo party.

Now of course, while Mexico has a wealth of traditional forms of dance, it is a modern country with modern styles as well. Salsa and meringue are popular genres of music on both sides of the border, as is Tejano music - and all three make great music for Cinco de Mayo dancing at a party.

It is easy to find music for these types of dances, especially if you live in a city, which has a large Mexican-American population. Record stores, which cater to the Latino community, will carry a wide selection to choose from, so you can find both traditional favorites and the latest hits to keep your guests entertained at your Cinco de Mayo party and provide the irresistible beats which inevitably lead to Cinco de Mayo dancing.

No Cinco de Mayo fiesta is complete without music and dancing, so if you're having a party for this holiday, it's time to start looking for some music - and brushing up on your Mexican dance steps!
